Can You Still Use Face ID After an iPhone Screen Repair?
One of the biggest worries people have before getting an iPhone screen replaced is whether Face ID will still work afterwards.
Fairly understandable really.
Face ID is tied closely into some extremely delicate components inside newer iPhones, and not every repair is carried out properly.
The good news is that in most normal screen replacements, Face ID should continue working perfectly fine.
But there are situations where problems happen.

Why Face ID Is So Sensitive
Apple designed Face ID with security in mind.
The system uses multiple tiny sensors and components housed near the top of the screen assembly, including:
Infrared sensors
Flood illuminators
Dot projectors
Front camera components
These parts are paired to the logic board individually.
That means certain damaged components cannot simply be swapped like a normal replacement part.
Face ID Problems Usually Happen in Three Situations
The phone was heavily damaged before repair
A hard impact can damage Face ID components at the same time as the screen itself.
In some cases the screen crack is obvious, but the Face ID issue only becomes noticeable afterwards.
Poor quality repair work
This is more common than most customers realise.
The flex cables and sensors near the top speaker assembly are extremely delicate.
Cheap repairs or rushed handling can damage them during disassembly.
Previous repairs
Sometimes we see phones that have already had multiple repairs carried out previously using lower quality parts or missing components.
That can complicate later repairs significantly.
Signs Something Is Wrong With Face ID
Typical symptoms include:
“Face ID is not available”
Face ID suddenly stops recognising you
Front camera issues
Problems setting up Face ID again
The sensor area stops working after a screen replacement
Sometimes the issue appears immediately. Other times it develops later if a damaged flex cable worsens over time.
Cheap Screens Can Cause Other Problems Too
Even if Face ID still works, lower quality screens can create:
Poor touch response
Reduced brightness
Washed out colours
Faster battery drain
Unresponsive gestures
That is why part quality matters far more than most people realise.
Face ID Issues Are Not Always Repairable
This is the part many repair shops avoid explaining clearly.
Because Apple pairs some Face ID components to the phone itself, certain damaged parts cannot simply be replaced independently without specialist microsoldering work.
That is why careful handling during repairs matters so much in the first place.
