iPhone Screen Not Responding After Drop? Here’s What to Do

If your iPhone screen is not responding after a drop, it’s a common (and frustrating) problem. Sometimes the screen looks fine — no cracks — but won’t register touch at all.
Here’s what could be happening, and what to do next.

1. Check for visible damage
First, inspect the screen under a bright light. Even if there’s no major crack, look for:
Hairline fractures
Tiny impact points (especially at corners)
Gaps between the screen and frame
If there’s visible damage, the digitiser (touch sensor) beneath the glass may be broken — even if the display looks OK.
2. Try a hard restart
Sometimes, a drop can temporarily confuse the system or cause a crash. Try a force restart:
For iPhones with Face ID:Press and release Volume Up → Press and release Volume Down → Hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears
For iPhones with a Home button:Hold the Home and Power button together until the Apple logo shows
If the screen still doesn’t respond after rebooting, the issue is likely hardware-related.
3. Has the display cable been dislodged?
On impact, it’s possible for the internal screen connectors to loosen slightly — especially if the phone landed on a corner. This can cause:
A black screen
A lit screen with no touch response
Flickering or lines
This isn’t something you can fix at home, but it’s usually a quick repair.
4. Can it be repaired?
